{"id":4701,"date":"2022-04-08T12:15:02","date_gmt":"2022-04-08T12:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.georgehay.co.uk\/blogs\/?p=4701"},"modified":"2023-11-16T16:32:05","modified_gmt":"2023-11-16T16:32:05","slug":"companies-house-change-filing-small-businesses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.georgehay.co.uk\/blogs\/2022\/04\/companies-house-change-filing-small-businesses\/","title":{"rendered":"Companies House to change filing requirements for small businesses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department for Business, Energy &amp; Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/corporate-transparency-and-register-reform\">whitepaper<\/a> detailing its response to consultations on Companies House reform.<\/p>\n<p>We know the service to be flexible and accessible, as it enables many entrepreneurs, every day, to incorporate their businesses. However, there are those who abuse the system, and the Government want to crack down on this.<\/p>\n<p>Reforms are likely to focus on two key remits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>filing and reporting requirements, and<\/li>\n<li>the role that Companies House plays as a custodian of data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Reporting and filing requirements<\/h5>\n<p>Plans point towards the limiting of filing selections to \u2018micro-entities\u2019 and \u2018small companies\u2019. Abridged or filleted accounts will no longer be an option.<\/p>\n<p>This, it is hoped, will improve accuracy and transparency of the financial information appearing on the register for all businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Small companies will effectively file what they prepare &#8211; i.e., a profit and loss account, balance statement and directors report.<\/p>\n<p>However, it is worth noting that companies meeting the micro-entity threshold will retain the option not to prepare or file a directors report.<\/p>\n<p>Accounts filed with Companies House will mirror those submitted to other Government departments and, consequently, we may eventually see a more centralised approach to filing.<\/p>\n<p>Filing periods will remain unchanged, (nine months following the end of the reporting year) for the time being. However, an examination of these further down the line should not be ruled out.<\/p>\n<p>The plans outlined in the whitepaper also put forward a requirement to use full iXBRL tagging for accounts being filed.
