It is a government initiative designed to support employers by reducing their Class 1 National Insurance liability.<\/p>\n<p>Eligible employers are able to claim up to a specific amount, which can help offset the cost of expanding their workforce.<\/p>\n<h5>Are you eligible?<\/h5>\n<p>According to HM Revenue &amp; Custom\u2019s latest statistics, around 1,171,000 employers benefitted from the Employment Allowance in the 2022\/23 tax year. However, it\u2019s likely that many businesses still do not understand their eligibility.<\/p>\n<p>You may be eligible for the Employment Allowance if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are a business or a charity<\/li>\n<li>Your employer\u2019s Class 1 National Insurance liability did not exceed \u00a3100,00 in the previous tax year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Special rules apply to companies that are part of a group, and those operating multiple payrolls. More detail can be found on the GOV.UK website, <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/claim-employment-allowance\/eligibility\">here<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Public bodies and businesses conducting the majority of their work in the public sector (such as local councils and NHS services) are unable to claim.<\/p>\n<p>You also cannot claim if both of the following apply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>you\u2019re a company with only one employee paid above the Class 1 National Insurance secondary threshold<\/li>\n<li>the employee is also a director of the company<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is also worth bearing in mind that certain employees cannot be included in your claim, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>someone whose earnings are within IR35 \u2018off-payroll working rules\u2019<\/li>\n<li>someone you employ for personal, household or domestic work (i.e., gardener) &#8211; unless they\u2019re a care or support worker<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Benefits of the Employment Allowance<\/h5>\n<p><em>Saving money whilst expanding your workforce<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The primary benefit is the potential for significant cost savings.
