Accountex, Europe’s definitive event for accountancy and finance professionals, took place across two days earlier this month, at ExCeL London.
Associate Partner, Caroline Hicks, went along to see and hear about some of the latest trends, technology and ideas driving the industry forward.
Caroline said: “Having been to the event a few years ago, I was even more impressed this year with the information on offer and the learnings I was able to bring back to the firm that can help us to continue to meet our client’s needs.
“The event provides a valuable opportunity to mix with established and up-and-coming brands, but also to engage with other accountants, to discuss the issues affecting clients and how we as professionals can best respond to these.
“As you might expect, the focus was largely on the impending changes associated with MTD for Income Tax and about how we can communicate its importance to clients. One comment in particular, that stuck with me, was that those who will be impacted by the requirements should prepare now, whilst its important but not ‘important AND urgent’!
“It was exciting to be able to observe some of the demonstrations being delivered by various software providers; it was nice to meet the faces behind the brand and to hear about their plans for developing the software even further and their visions for the future.
“Interestingly, one of the talks I attended, delivered by the CTO of Sage, addressed the fact that even with all of these AI developments, human input will always be necessary and that accountants remain evermore important in the digital age.”
