Despite HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) having announced the provision of more flexible payment terms for taxpayers with self-assessment liabilities, at time of writing the deadline for submitting paper and online self-assessment tax returns remains the same.
- Midnight 31 October 2020 – the deadline by which you must have submitted your 2019/20 paper self-assessment tax return.
- Midnight 31 January 2021 – the deadline by which you must have submitted your 2019/20 online self-assessment tax return.
It is important that you submit your return on time, as you will face a £100 penalty if you miss the deadline. Additional late filing penalties accrue if your tax return is submitted more than 3 months late and interest is charged if your pay your tax bill late.
