George Hay Chartered Accountants have strengthened their Probate and Estates team with the addition of a fourth qualified practitioner.

Carol George, a Chartered Tax Adviser who works at both the Huntingdon and Letchworth offices, recently passed her Probate exams.

Having worked in tax for over 32 years, specialising in personal tax, Carol’s wealth of experience means she is perfectly placed to assist clients with Probate, but also to advise on the tax matters that often arise during the process.

On becoming a qualified practitioner, Carol said: “I’m really pleased to have passed my exam and to be working alongside the other qualified practitioners in the firm. I’m looking forward to using the new knowledge I’ve acquired and my years of experience working in tax to assist clients at each stage of the probate process.

From applying for probate, submitting paperwork and making any necessary payments, to eventually distributing the estate and undertaking comprehensive tax planning, the thought of taking any of this on without the support of a professional can be daunting.

As a team, our sole aim is to deliver a comprehensive probate service, with sensitivity and discretion, relieving our clients of the administrative burden and other anxieties and ultimately, making a challenging time that little bit easier.”

In November 2014, George Hay became one of the first firms in the country to be authorised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to offer non-contentious probate services.

Since then, GH Probate have acted for a number of clients but also for client’s relatives, business contacts, will writers and families with no previous connection to the firm.

The latest exam success takes the number of qualified probate practitioners in the practice to four, based across all three offices in Huntingdon, Biggleswade and Letchworth.

Barry Jefferd, Head of GH Probate, had this to say: “I am delighted that Carol has passed her exams.

Increasing the number of qualified practitioners within the firm, shows our commitment to this niche. Having seen our turnover doubled in the previous financial year, this certainly vindicates our decision to move into Probate.

By ensuring that we have qualified probate practitioners in each of our offices, we extend our reach and make our expertise easily accessible to bereaved individuals and families across Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire.”
