Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are the lifeblood of the country, accounting for 99.9 per cent of all businesses across the UK.
According to a survey, UK private sector businesses recognise that their operations would struggle to function as efficiently as they do without the services that accountants deliver, particularly as COVID-19 left many business owners facing new and unexpected obstacles.
Strategic advisory invaluable to SMEs
The survey has confirmed the importance of accountants to SMEs, rating the profession as the go-to business service in respect of pandemic-related problems (28 per cent), Brexit and Making Tax Digital ((MTD (39 per cent))).
This is where the expertise of accountancy firms in the latest cloud accounting technology eases the burden on their clients and can transform their outlook.
The survey, commissioned by accountancy software supplier Sage, shows that 91 per cent of SME owners rate accountants as an important part of their business operation, while 49 per cent are happy to approach them for strategic business advice.
More than a third stated that accountants would be their first ‘port of call’ when starting a business.
The study revealed that 91 per cent of SMEs engage the services of an accountant, whilst almost half make use of their services on a weekly basis.
Accountancy and advisory to help you achieve what you set out to
Claire Gardiner, GH Online Accounting & Bookkeeping, says: “Running a business in today’s world is no mean feat, whether with or without a helping hand, and business owners should recognise the part they themselves play in their successes.
“That being said, it’s nice to know that we as a profession are clearly getting it right and meeting the needs of modern-day enterprises.
“Strategic business advice has always been part of the service we offer, but we realise that demand for this kind of input is greater than ever and so there is an opportunity for us to promote this fact even more so.
“We see ourselves as an extension of your business and we want our clients to buy into that, as only then can they get the most out of their partnership with us as accountants and business advisers.
