The Digital Accountancy Show 2023 took place on 15 June at Evolution, Battersea. We couldn’t miss the opportunity to network and learn about the latest advancements in accounting tech.
Our GH Online Accounting division offers an outsourced bookkeeping and cloud advisory solution, using market-leading software and the latest Apps and digital tools to help our clients achieve their objectives.
As a result, events like DAS are really important for us. New knowledge helps us to continue to develop as a practice, and to enhance our offering.
In this blog, our team give us their summation of the day and what they learned.
The right ecosystem of apps and tools for every client
Kevin Taylor, Accountant at George Hay, commented: “Interestingly, of 5.5 million small businesses in the UK, less than half of those are using one of the four leading software packages.
“Therefore, the opportunity to work with small businesses to not only educate them on the benefits of digital accounting, but to ensure they’re getting what they need from the systems they have in place, is huge!
“Our team put a lot of time and effort into understanding what products are available, into learning about which ones lend themselves to certain businesses, and into identifying the right ecosystem of tools for each client.
“Listening to some of the speakers at the Digital Accountancy Show, it was really hammered home that cloud accounting and the insight it can deliver should be an inherent part of a business’s ‘every-day’ routine. Furthermore, combined with the right advisory input, it can consistently unlock value as a business grows and evolves.
“I found it fascinating to hear about how AI could change accounting. Though, I was reassured that we have the opportunity to maintain the ‘human touch’ by getting creative, and continuing to build great relationships with clients.”
Switching cloud accounting software
Sarah Kenyon, a key member of our bookkeeping and cloud advisory department, commented: “DAS was great again this year. It was fast-paced as always, but gave us so much food for thought.
“Some clients see cloud accounting as this colossal, daunting thing that it doesn’t have to be. It all boils down to helping them to better understand their business, and to manage its performance flexibly.
“One talk I attended emphasised the idea that one software may not fulfil the needs of a business forever. We, as advisers, play a crucial role in the ‘switching’ process by helping clients to identify what they want and need from a new platform.
“I enjoyed meeting vendors at DAS, and finding out how they are innovating to support businesses. We’ll be investigating a few products, to see if we can build them into our offering.”
AI and the evolution of accountancy
Associate Partner Samantha Green was impressed by the evolution of the event: “It was another fantastic year at the Digital Accountancy Show. It’s great to see the show evolve each time we return, and I particularly enjoyed the focus on AI.
“I was pleased to meet with suppliers we know well, as well as those up and coming in the marketplace.
There were some fantastic talks throughout the day from colleagues in the industry. I’m looking forward to seeing how our firm can benefit from the learnings we brought back with us.”
