The 22nd June saw Potton Market Square taken over by the Community; charity stalls, children’s activities and a stage for performers saw the town packed, taking advantage of the rare summer sunshine.
The driver for the activity was to congratulate Clayton’s Butchers, who have been in business for 100 years this year.
No doubt one of the reasons for the good attendance was that Claytons were giving away free burgers / hot dogs. Anybody who has used Claytons will know the quality of their meat and that it is worth queuing for. So popular was the event that they gave away over 2,000 items.
One of the directors, Matthew Wrighton, said “it was a fantastic day and way exceeded our expectations. It was hard work cooking on the BBQ but such a proud moment for us, seeing the Potton community come together”
Client partner Barry Jefferd, (who did join the queue) said “it was great to see the buzz in the market square and I send my congratulations to Claytons for reaching such a significant milestone, so rare these days for family businesses. I am delighted that George Hay have acted for Claytons for over thirty years, one-third of their existence. When we were first appointed, the business was owned by Len Clayton. We acted on the transfer to his son Neil and then he passed to his daughter Laura, who owns the business with Matthew. I understand that Laura’s son Harley is studying an apprenticeship in Butchery so it looks like the family business will be continuing for many years to come”
