It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that Sarah Dixon died unexpectedly and suddenly on Good Friday, 18 April 2025, aged 46.
Sarah joined George Hay in August 1997, straight from school. Throughout her nearly 28 years with us she has always been a valued and much loved member of the team.
Sarah started as an accounts trainee at our Biggleswade office and soon obtained the qualification of the Association of Accounting Technicians in 2002.
Her career progressed when she moved to specialising in taxation. We were looking for somebody to progress as a Tax Compliance Specialist. Such a person requires detailed organisation, and a solid methodical approach enabling data to be processed and analysed efficiently. It also requires the ability to look at outcomes, to ensure completeness and also as a base for any planning. The Partners realised that Sarah had all of these qualities in abundance and so a career in taxation was born.
For many years, Sarah acted as tax manager to various Partners, all of whom valued her efficiency and organisational skills. Many a Partner was kept on the straight and narrow by her friendly persuasion.
In 2020 Sarah was given the opportunity to have her own client portfolio, an opportunity she grasped with both hands. For the past 5 years she has given her clients a full professional service, and we have throughout this time seen the warmth and appreciation clients have shown her.
Sarah was somebody who made things happen. Whether it was organising the tax statistics, dealing with the tax investigation service, organising the secret Santa or arranging the charity Christmas raffle, Sarah would be the one leading the way.
The shock and grief throughout the firm on hearing the sad news was a testament as to how much her friendship meant and how she was cared for and appreciated by us all.
Outside work for many years, she was involved with the Scout Movement for the benefit of many young people.
Our sympathies have been passed to her husband Martin, and son Matthew following their sad loss.
Sarah left a legacy at George Hay, and she will not be forgotten in the years to come.
Rest in peace, Sarah.
