Karen Walton

Karen, who is based at our Biggleswade office, joined George Hay in November 2018 as a Scanning Clerk; taking care of all our scanning and digital filing.

She is a qualified Electronic Technician and Legal Executive, with a specialisation in contract law, although she confesses that she has not used either of these qualifications in a long time!

Before having children and latterly joining George Hay, Karen worked in Procurement for Europe’s largest Defence Company (or as she puts it, a ‘professional shopper’ for the defence industry; procuring everything from radars to rocket motors).

Whilst there, she worked on the programme to deliver the design, development, manufacture, supply and support of the weapon system for the Royal Navy’s fleet of Type 45 Destroyers.

After taking a break from work to look after her children, Karen is pleased to be back in an office environment and (in her words) ‘working with such a welcoming and friendly group of people’.

Outside of work, Karen enjoys gardening and baking. She also likes to combine the two by growing lots of vegetables in the garden and then finding various recipes to incorporate them into cakes etc.!  We hear her Courgette Chocolate Brownies are particularly good!

Unfortunately, our Biggleswade office was affected by a fire overnight.

As a result, the Biggleswade office will remain closed for the rest of this week while we assess the damage and begin the recovery process.

We would like to reassure all of our clients that no client files or important documents have been damaged. The fire has affected the office building and furniture, but your records remain safe and secure.

Our other offices remain open and operating as normal. Following earlier issues, our phone lines are now operational. Calls to our Biggleswade office are being diverted to our open sites and the team are taking messages where necessary. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience in the coming days.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service for their swift, professional, and dedicated response. Most importantly, we are incredibly grateful that no one was injured.

Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support during this time. We will keep you updated as further information becomes available.
