Richard Dilley

Richard joined George Hay back in 1986; he qualified with the firm, was appointed as a Partner in 2001 and took on the role of Managing Partner in 2017.

He is responsible for auditing within the practice and has vast experience in this area.

Based at our Letchworth office in Hertfordshire, which he played an instrumental role in developing, Richard specialises in advising small to medium sized businesses (SME’s).

His expertise in financial services compliance and years of experience working with business start-ups is of great benefit to many of our clients.

In addition to small businesses and start-ups, Richard has a significant portfolio of property clientele, and advises property agents, landlords, investors and property developers on a range of property transactions.

In his 30+ years with the firm, he has also worked closely with a number of clients that have either been buying or selling a business. Here, his expertise lies in providing due-diligence reports on target businesses and advising businesses on the different ways in which they can sell their business to maximise their wealth and reduce their tax burden. Richard is a keen golfer and enjoys all types of sport generally. When he’s not in the office, you might find him running, cycling or swimming.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, he has taken part in a number of half-marathons, completed the London marathon in 2016 and regularly completes triathlons.

In 2018, Richard took on the Outlaw Half ironman at the Holkham Estate in Norfolk, completing a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run in 6hrs 40mins.

In 2019, he tackled the same event and managed to complete the course in 6hrs 14mins; in a Steve Redgrave moment, he said ‘never again’ but who knows!
