Sam, who is based at our Letchworth office, joined George Hay in October 2020 as a Senior Accountant.

Sam achieved his AAT qualification first, in February 2013 and later, in 2018, completed his ACCA qualification.

With around 9 years of practice experience, Sam works with limited companies and unincorporated businesses, supporting them with accounts preparation and related tax compliance matters.

Q1. Describe yourself in three words?

Friendly, Competitive and Positive

Q2. Having worked in practice for a number of years, what is it about the practice environment that you enjoy?

Not every day is the same, and the variety of different clients and business types that you get to work alongside bring exciting challenges and opportunities to learn.

Food Heaven – Paella

Q4. What was it that made you want to pursue a career in accountancy?

I studied accountancy during 6th Form and found I had a natural ability for the basics, so I made the decision to pursue it as a career.

Q5. Something we’d find on your bucket list is…

I would love to travel to Australia and New Zealand one day.

Q6. Having been with us for a few months now, what one word would you use to describe George Hay?

Welcoming.

Q7. Your profile tells us you’re a keen Saracens fan – are you a keen watcher/player of any other sports

I am big fan of Formula 1 and have been watching the sport for many years. When I get time, I enjoy playing snooker too.

Q8. With businesses having perhaps had some difficult experiences in the last year or so, why do you think having the support of professional advisers is so important (i.e. what role do we play in helping our clients through challenging times)?

We are here to help businesses to plan beyond the next few months and to look at ways in which they can continue to pursue growth and prosperity beyond the pandemic and other challenges, for example – Brexit!

Q9. A confessed lover of Gin – there are hundreds to choose from! Do you have a favourite?

My favourite would have to be The Botanist!

Q10. What attracted you to apply for a role with George Hay?

It’s a local firm that presented me with an opportunity to further my career and to continue to enjoy the elements of practice life which I have appreciated previously.
